Carols’ young career in the horse world started nearly as soon as she could walk. From some of the biggest ranches in California through the Horse Show world, Carol has maintained a passion for horses and competition.
Growing up on the historic mountain ranches of California like the Sway Ranch, Carol watched good horsemanship and great horsemanship. Her father, Cam Shryver was her early role model; as she watched the difference in his quiet efficient ways and those around them. From that point on, Carol has concentrated on getting the most from colts through ease, efficiency and understanding.
These approaches have garnered her a small but impressive resume’. Carol at this young age has worked for cutters Todd Bimatt and for Scott Wies; starting all of his two year olds. “It was a good job, the horses were so talented, but as most people know Scott is a tough boss. But thank god he liked me. I worked for him until all the colts were broke enough for his help to ride.”
Carol went on to show at the Snaffle Bit Futurity, getting help from the likes of Carol Roberts, Teddy Robinson, Mike Swan and others.
From there Carol had the show bug and decided to go to work in the industry to hone her skills beyond colt starting; working for Brandon Staebler and later the famous Carol Rose.
“My dream of becoming a horse trainer was in the making. I just have to add thirty years to my resume and I’m in there. My dad always told me to just wait until I’m forty, then I’ll be really good. I’m still working on that, and on my patience. None of this horse training goulash comes in a heartbeat; I’ve had to accept that.”
